What This Notice Means

The CP152 is a receipt. The IRS is confirming it received your tax-exempt bond form. Nothing is wrong, and nothing is owed because of this notice.

What to Do

You don't need to take any action.

  • Keep this notice for your records.
  • File it with the records for the bond issue it relates to.

One Notice per Form

If you filed more than one tax-exempt bond form, you'll receive a separate CP152 for each form. Match each notice to the form it confirms. If you filed several forms and are missing a notice for one of them, that's worth following up on, because it may mean the IRS has no record of that filing.

Why Keep It

Bond issues can stay outstanding for many years. Questions about filings can come up long after the paperwork was done, often after the people who handled it have moved on. A confirmation from the IRS that it received your form is simple proof of a timely filing. Store it where whoever handles the bond issue in the future can find it.

If Something Looks Wrong

If you didn't file a bond form, or the notice references a form or issue you don't recognize, call the number on your notice. You can also authorize a representative to deal with the IRS for you using Form 2848.
