What This Notice Means

Your shared responsibility payment (SRP) assessment changed because the IRS recalculated it based on changes to your income tax liability. The results of the examination that changed your income tax come in a separate letter. This notice deals only with the SRP.

The SRP is the payment assessed for not having minimum essential health coverage for you and, if applicable, your dependents, under Internal Revenue Code Section 5000A.

What to Do

  • Read the notice carefully. It explains your due date, the amount due, and your payment options.
  • Make your payment by the due date. The IRS Payments page and the IRS app list your options.

Interest

Interest continues to be added if you don't pay the full amount by the date on the payment coupon. If you don't respond to the notice, you'll continue to be charged interest until the balance is paid.

If You Can't Pay

You can apply online for a payment plan, including installment agreements.

If You Disagree

Call the number on your notice. Have your paperwork ready, such as cancelled checks or an amended return.

Because the SRP was recalculated off an income tax change, look at the exam results too. If the income tax change is wrong, the SRP figure built on it may be wrong as well. Read that separate correspondence closely and watch any deadlines it sets.

Keep Copies

Keep this notice with the examination letter. They relate to the same tax year, and you'll want both if you need to dispute either one.

If you received a CP15H notice after an exam changed your return, call us at (813) 229-7100. We can review both the exam and the recalculation.
