IRS Letter 3286C: Account Action Confirmation

The LTR 3286C confirms that the IRS took a specific action on your account. This could be a payment application, an account correction, a status change, or another administrative action. The letter documents what was done and when.

Common Actions Confirmed

Payment applied to your account, address or name change processed, filing status correction, account merge or transfer between periods, penalty or interest adjustment, and installment agreement setup or modification.

Verify the Action

Compare the action described in the LTR 3286C to what you requested. If you asked for a payment to be applied to 2023 and the letter confirms it was applied to 2022, contact the IRS to correct the error. If the action matches your request, file the letter as confirmation.

If You Didn't Request the Action

An unexpected LTR 3286C could indicate an error or unauthorized activity on your account. If you didn't request the action described, contact the IRS immediately to understand what happened and whether your account has been compromised.

If an account action doesn't look right, call us at (813) 229-7100.
