What This Letter Means
Letter 5613C is a renewal reminder for the IRS Acceptance Agent Program. It goes to Acceptance Agents and Certifying Acceptance Agents (CAAs), the businesses and individuals authorized to help people apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) on Form W-7.
The letter tells you your Acceptance Agent Agreement will expire on December 31 of the year shown, and that you must renew this year to prevent a lapse in service. It has nothing to do with unreported income or a tax bill.
Why Timing Matters
The IRS encourages renewal applicants to start at least six months before the agreement ends. That leaves time for approval before the old agreement expires. A lapse delays the Form W-7 applications you submit for clients.
What to Do
- Complete the mandatory ITIN Acceptance Agent training on IRS.gov before you submit the application. Every responsible party listed must electronically sign a training certification statement.
- Submit the application through the IRS Registered User Portal.
- If you are a Certifying Acceptance Agent, also complete Forensic Document Identification Training and upload the original certificate from your designated vendor.
The IRS will not process applications submitted without the required certifications. Keep copies of every certificate and your submission confirmation.
If You Don't Renew
When the agreement expires, you can no longer act as an Acceptance Agent under it. If you plan to leave the program, no action is needed, but tell clients who rely on you for ITIN applications.
If you're an Acceptance Agent with a separate IRS problem, call us at (813) 229-7100.
