The LTR 725B is a variant within the LTR 725 family of audit appointment letters. Like the LTR 725A, it schedules an appointment related to your examination. The variant may reflect a different examination type, a different IRS function, or additional information not covered in the standard 725A format.
Same Preparation
Regardless of the suffix, the preparation is identical. Review the letter for the audit date, time, location, and document list. Gather everything requested. Organize by issue. Consider professional representation.
Your Rights
You have the right to representation at any audit appointment. You have the right to request a rescheduling with reasonable notice. You have the right to record the interview (with advance notice to the IRS). You have the right to an explanation of the audit process and your appeal rights.
If the Suffix Seems Unfamiliar
Don't let an unfamiliar letter suffix cause you to treat the notice differently. An LTR 725B carries the same weight as a 725A. It's an audit appointment. Prepare for it, attend it (or have your representative attend), and respond to it with the same seriousness as any examination correspondence.
