IRS Letter 4384C: Return Under Review or Hold

The LTR 4384C notifies you that your return has been placed on hold or is under review. Like the CP05 and LTR 4464C, this letter means the IRS identified something that requires additional review before processing can continue. Your refund is held until the review is complete.

Common Triggers

Credits or deductions that require verification, income or withholding discrepancies, identity verification concerns, compliance program flags, and prior year issues that affect the current year's return. The specific trigger may or may not be identified in the letter.

What to Do

If the letter requests documentation or action, respond promptly. If it's informational, wait through the stated review period. Monitor your account for follow-up correspondence and status changes.

If the review extends beyond the stated timeframe without resolution, call the number on the letter for a status update.

If your return is under review and you need help, call us at (813) 229-7100.
